A Jazz Musician Journeys Through The Afterlife in Disney Pixar's 'Soul'
Starring Jamie Foxx, Daveed Diggs, Phylicia Rashad, and Questlove.
Pixar Disney has released the first trailer for its first animated picture with a black lead, Soul, starring Jamie Foxx as a jazz musician who has recently died. The footage above introduces us to Joe Gardner, a middle school teacher living in New York City who has always dreamed about being a professional musician. When he suddenly dies in an accident, his soul is sent to a place called You Seminar, where he will meet a teen spirit named 22 (voiced by Tina Fey) and embark on a journey through the afterlife to get his body back.
The film is directed by Pixar president and Inside Out‘s Pete Docter and has been described as a mix of the latter film as well as Pixar’s 2017 film Coco. The film will also co-star Daveed Diggs, Phylicia Rashad, and Questlove.
Check out the footage above and catch Soul when it hits theaters June 19, 2020.
