A Look at the Balmain x PUMA Campaign Featuring Cara Delevingne
Presenting boxing-themed offerings, and centered around “fighting the good fight.”
PUMA and Balmain have teamed up for a boxing-inspired collection, infused with Parisian couture stylings and featuring the incomparable Cara Delevingne, first seen in a lookbook revealed last month. Based on the idea of “fighting the good fight,” the collection aims to tell the stories of everyday people who are fiercely, unapologetically being themselves by standing up for what they believe in. Thanks to prizefight-ready footwear, apparel and accessories, the offerings encapsulate this pugnacious ethos quite literally.
A trifecta of co-created footwear styles provide the center point of the offerings. One is a high-top silhouette constructed of supple black leather, complete with a large tongue secured by two straps with gold jacket-style buttons. Another, the Nightfox, opts for a low-top cut with more gold medallion detailing on its tongue and around its collar. Last but not least, there’s a shin-high technical boot with gold eyestays and a jagged graphic on the midfoot. These three styles are then accompanied by a wide variety of other pieces, ranging from t-shirts and track jackets to bra tops, boxing shorts and socks. There’s even special boxing gloves as well.
Balmain frontman Oliver Rousteing‘s in-line FW19 campaign is centered around a “troublemaker” theme, so this collaborative capsule continues that personification. Of course, Delevingne and Rousteing have a storied relationship, as the model/actress has been heavily involved in the brand’s last few campaigns. “PUMA has always represented teamwork and empowerment so the idea of doing a partnership with Olivier seemed very fitting,” said Delevingne. “Balmain has a similar brave fierceness to their brand as PUMA does and it really excited me to think of what we could all do together. I’m really proud of what this collaboration has resulted in.”
The Balmain x PUMA collection will release worldwide via PUMA.com and at select retailers on November 21.
This isn’t the only high fashion/footwear brand collaboration set to come to market later this fall — Prada and adidas also recently announced a partnership.
