Made Thought Reimagines Fred Perry's 5-4-4 Motif in Monochromatic Capsule
Modernizing a slice of the British brand’s history.
London-based creative collective Made Thought has been enlisted by Fred Perry to reinterpret a number of staples, utilizing the British label’s signature 5-4-4 motif.
The 5-4-4 design ratio references football history and shaped Fred Perry’s aesthetic. It’s said that a buyer from Lillywhites originally requested football team colors to be added to the iconic polo shirt, which lead to Fred Perry introducing its iconic Twin Tipping stripes on the collar and cuffs of its signature garment, which forms a 5-4-4 design.
This design code has been reinterpreted by Made Thought, who have deconstructed the 5-4-4 formation and implemented it onto T-shirts, sweaters, shirts, polo shirts and a taped track jacket. The key piece from the capsule is the polo, which now wears the 5-4-4 insignia on its collar alongside the traditional stripes.
A block-shaped formation adorns the front of T-shirts and sweaters, while the shirts sport two large block-color lines. The jacket is bolder with 5-4-4 branding down the side of each arm, contrasting the black track stripes.
