Last month, Nas decided to close out 2018 by reconnecting with Swizz Beatz for the video in support of their recent collaborative effort “Echo.” Now, for his first major release of the new year, the 45-year-old NYC legend revisits his most recent studio album, Nasir, to serve up a visual for “Cops Shot the Kid.”

Originally released in June of 2018, Nasir stands as its creator’s eleventh studio album and serves as the follow-up to 2012’s Life Is Good LP. Nasir introduced seven new tracks to listeners, all of which were produced Kanye West. For the “Cops Shot the Kid” vignette, Nas is also joined by Slick Rick, whose “Children’s Story” record is sampled on the track.

“The cop shot the kid, same old scene / Pour out a little liquor, champagne for pain / Slap-boxin’ in the street / Crack the hydrant in the heat,” Nas raps. “
Cop cars on the creep / Doin’ they round-ups, we just watch for the sweep / Yeah, it’s hotter than July / It’s the summer when n***as die / It’s the summer when n***as ride.”
