Disney Shares First Look at Live-Action ‘Mulan’
“Let’s get down to business.”

Though not scheduled to release until 2020, Disney has just given fans a first look at its highly-anticipated live-action adaptation of the 1998 animated classic hit, Mulan.
The first look, which can be seen above, shows Chinese-American actress, model, and singer Liu Yifei dressed as the titular character. The famous Chinese folktale will center around a woman named Hua Mulan, who goes undercover as a man so that she can help fight against the Northern invaders attacking China. Jet Li will star as the emperor of China, Gong Li will portray a powerful witch, Donnie Yen will be Mulan’s mentor, Commander Tung, and Yoson An will play Mulan’s love interest, Chen Honghui. The film will also star Utkarsh Ambudkar, Ron Yuan, Tzi Ma, Rosalind Chao, Cheng Pei-Pei, Nelson Lee, and Chum Ehelepola.
Production for the live-action adaptation began on Monday in both China and New Zealand. The live-action Mulan is tentatively scheduled for a March 27, 2020 release. On the film Disney stated:
“The eldest daughter of an honored warrior, Hua Mulan is spirited, determined and quick on her feet. When the Emperor issues a decree that one man per family must serve in the Imperial Army, she steps in to take the place of her ailing father as Hua Jun, becoming one of China’s greatest warriors ever.”
In related news, Disney’s live-action Star Wars TV series could cost $100 million USD.
