Kanye West Shares His Love for Katsuhiro Otomo's 'Akira'
Calling the Japanese animated film his “biggest creative inspiration.”
Remaining active on Twitter, Kanye West recently took to the social media platform to share his love for Katsuhiro Otomo‘s Akira.
Kicking off his string of appreciative tweets, West shared a photo of Otomo holding a pair of “Wave Runner” YEEZY BOOST 700 and went on to call Akira his “biggest creative inspiration.” The artist then went on to note its influence on his career stating, “Every stage show I’ve ever worked Every video not just ‘Stronger’ every product even when I was in the hospital I would think… oh shit this is like Akira.” Longtime fans will recall that the Hype Williams visual for “Stronger,” off of Kanye’s 2007 album Graduation, featured shot-for-shot recreations of Otomo’s iconic film set in dystopian Neo-Tokyo. Finally, West finished off his appreciative comments by saying, “This is not only the greatest animation achievement in history the subject matter is so relevant to the current state of the world.”
