New Balance 996 Celebrates Its 30th Anniversary With Special Edition Colorways
The original ’80s grey and black schemes.
New Balance is celebrating the 30th anniversary of the 996 model with two special edition colorways, “Grey” and “Black,” that nod to the silhouette’s first two colorways from 1988 and 1989.
Both models feature a premium suede and mesh upper, silver 3M reflective material at the “N” branding and heel tab, and an off-white midsole and black outsole combo. The grey color scheme, a reproduction of the first 996 grey, sees a monochromatic upper with white accents at the “N” outline and laces, whereas the black edition sees a tonal paneling with metallic gold accents at the “N” outline, inner lining and heel stabilizer.
Both colorways of the New Balance 30th anniversary 996 models are available now for ¥27,000 JPY (about $243 USD) each at New Balance Japan’s web store.
For more retro styles, the adidas Continental 80 will launch in an “Aero Blue” color scheme.
