Mick Jenkins & Kaytranada Deliver Smooth Boom-Bap for "What Am I To Do?"
“Delicate flows under heavy metal bars.”
Towards the beginning of this month, Mick Jenkins announced a new studio album titled Piece of a Man and introduced the effort with the release of its lead single, “Bruce Banner.” Continuing to support the project, Mick Jenkins teams up with Kaytranada for “What Am I To Do?”
A smooth slice of boom-bap, “What Am I To Do?” showcases the chemistry between Jenkins and Kaytranada and provides a striking display of the former artist’s talents as an emcee. “The less you got stuffed in your pocket books /The more these politicians just sound like crooks,” Jenkins spits. “They give me sloppy looks / They gave us nothing, had to hustle same way coffee cook.” One of Jenkins’ lines on “What Am I To Do?” perfectly sums up his style: “Delicate flows under heavy metal bars.”
