London's Grime Scene Gets Broken Down in New Video Analogy
It’s not the same as hip-hop.
The grime genre took shape in London, England as a genesis between dub, UK garage, dancehall and hip-hop. As the popularity of grime continues on an upward rise thanks to the likes of Dizzee Rascal and Skepta, artists such as Drake have been bending over backwards to associate himself with the scene. Drizzy even bought the rights to Top Boy, a TV show focused on the birthplace of grime: East London. Along with that, during the 2015 BRIT Awards, Kanye West even brought out a group of young grime emcees for his performance, helping to bring the grime genre a step forward into pop culture.
Now thanks to a video analogy by Vox, grime’s critical turning point and evolution is broken down. Watch it above.
