The Rollout For Skepta’s 'Fork & Knife' Has Officially Begun

The rollout for Fork & Knife, Skepta’s first project in seven years, has finally begun, despite being announced in 2024 and initially scheduled for earlier this year. 

Fork & Knife is the UK grime pioneer’s first full-length rap project since 2019’s Ignorance Is Bliss. The rollout for the highly anticipated project kicked off with the high-octane track, “Innocent Smile”, featuring drum and bass duo Chase and Status, and Suggs, the lead singer and frontman of 70s British pop group Madness. The breakbeat track combines grime, ska, and heavy electronic club music — a true reflection of the song’s contributors. 

With a London-shot music video directed by Aidan Zamiri — blending cinematic storytelling with nostalgic 2000s British references, “Innocent Smile” and Fork & Knife as a whole reflect the realities of the rapper’s experience of being raised by Nigerian parents who immigrated to North London and the negativity he witnesses surrounding multiculturalism in his country, stating in a recent Instagram post that “In the UK, you would have had 10 or more different nationalities in your classroom to begin with, so we are raised to respect other people’s beliefs, faith and language from young. This is how the UK always creates the best scenes and subgenres. Our rave culture is literally a melting pot of people who have a mutual respect for what we all bring to the table.”

The start of the Fork & Knife rollout reflects Skepta’s connection to British music culture, ranging from grime and garage to house, jungle and rave. The upcoming project does not have an official release date, though it is expected in 2026.
