Barbour and UNITED ARROWS & SONS have teamed up on the OS Bedale, an exclusive version of the jacket that Barbour treats as one of its defining models. The Tokyo retailer took the Bedale’s familiar outline and scaled up the whole body, then refined its proportions so the British classic sits comfortably in a contemporary wardrobe.
The biggest change is the fabric. The shell is fully nylon and holds strong color, so the orange and light blue options look especially bright. The inside of the jacket uses more than one material. The solid sections of the lining are nylon, while the patterned panels and the collar are cotton, which puts a softer fabric where the jacket touches the neck.
Color works differently for each version. Instead of repeating one interior across the range, UNITED ARROWS & SONS gave each colorway its own lining and neck color. The black version has a classic base, while the orange and light blue options use bright shells with inside details that change from color to color.
The proportions were considered piece by piece rather than simply sized up. The body is cut larger throughout, and the sleeve length and front neck height have each been adjusted so the extra volume feels deliberate rather than baggy. The size 40, for instance, measures 78.5 centimeters in body length and 65 centimeters across the chest. It weighs about 930 grams. The extra room works well over knitwear and other layers, and the retailer presents the jacket as unisex.
Barbour’s history backs up the update. John Barbour founded the label in South Shields, in northeast England, in 1894. Five generations later, it remains a family business, and its headquarters are still in the region. The OS Bedale keeps the recognizable silhouette of that heritage piece while changing its fit, fabric, and color for a new audience.
The Barbour x UNITED ARROWS & SONS OS Bedale is available to pre-order now through the UNITED ARROWS online store, with deliveries expected in early October.
