A 1956 Aston Martin DBR1 Becomes the Most Expensive British Car to Sell at Auction
More than $20 million USD.

In recent months, we have reported on some special luxury automobile auctions that RM Sotheby’s has been organizing in Monterey, California. The high-end auction house has been exciting west coast car enthusiasts by putting entire collections of rare Ferraris, a very unique 1974 De Tomaso Pantera and other hard-to-find items on the market. Now, RM Sotheby’s is directing our attention towards the auction of an exceptional 1956 Aston Martin DBR1 race car.
During a recent auction, RM Sotheby’s managed to get one particularly-wealthy buyer to swoop up the aforementioned Aston Martin race vehicle for an astounding $22,550,000 USD price tag. As other media outlets and Sotheby’s have noted, that makes this the “most-expensive British car” to ever sell at an auction. Sotheby’s called it “the most correct example of what is arguably the most important Aston Martin ever produced.” Previously, a 1955 Jaguar D-Type held this car’s current record, having sold for $21.8 million USD. This particular DBR1 was also one of only five DBR1 models to ever hit the public retail market.
