EFFECTEN Looks to Grunge for Debut Spring/Summer 2018 Collection
The ’90s are back.
Japanese label EFFECTEN reveals its Spring/Summer 2018 collection, dubbed “Shades of Hobby.” Designing under the banner of “ANARCHY · OUTSIDER · JAZZ · BLUES,” Kentaro Hamanaka’s young brand blends graphic designs with a love of ’90s clothing.
Without sticking to any one style, EFFECTEN blends sportswear — in the form of tearaway pants and track jackets — with grunge staples like oversized chinos and button-up shirts. Plaid and striped patterns continue to the retro style, as do colorblocked pullovers and hoodies. Sex Pistols-referencing graphics add a hint of punk edginess, while other prints include the collection’s title, seen on the back of an oversized coat. Long belts and similar waist-level attachments further the collection’s layered appeal, which comes from original textiles sourced exclusively from the brand.
