PXG Debuts New Lineup of 0311 GEN7 and Black Ops Irons

The Black Ops are PXG’s “first true game-improvement irons.”

PXG, the golf brand founded by boisterous entrepreneur Bob Parsons, has been at the forefront of innovation in golf equipment since 2013 when the hollow-body 0311 irons launched. With a thin face and an injection mold to support it, the set offered forgiveness without sacrificing feel or customization. 11 years later PXG continues the legacy of the original 0311 irons with the 0311 GEN7 as well as an ultra game improvement set that gets its name from the brand’s most recent woods and driver release: Black Ops.

In a sea of thin face, hollow-body irons the new 0311 GEN7 has the thinnest face of all, .050 inches to be exact. That feature is only made possible by the proprietary QuantumCOR injection, a strong yet lightweight polymer that allows weight to be redistributed low and around the perimeter of the club, thus making it easier to hit. Additional weight is saved thanks to Titanium Bezel Technology, a housing for PXG’s signature Precision Weighting Technology that empowers PXG fitters to dial in the right swing weight for their customers. Club designers were able to save even more mass in this area thanks to the Titanium Bezel Technology’s smaller footprint compared to past renditions of the 0311 irons. The sets will cost $230 or $240 USD a club depending on finish, with an XP version featuring larger heads and more offset.

Moving on, the Black Ops irons offer a lot of the same benefits of the 0311’s – easy to hit, launch high and straight – but ramped up to another level. That’s why PXG Senior Director of Irons R&D Mike Nicolette is calling them “our first true game-improvement iron.” To boost the MOI, or forgiveness, the Black Ops Irons were designed with a dual cavity and filled with another proprietary polymer called XCOR2. This has the result of making mishits along the vertical and horizontal axes of the club more playable. Aesthetically, in comparison to the 0311 irons players will notice more offset, a thicker top rail and larger hitting area. The price for these is set at $150 USD a club, and all the new products can shopped on PXG’s website.
