After Wednesday night’s show-stopping Stephen Colbert set – an incredibly creative medley of “DENIAL IS A RIVER” and “BOILED PEANUTS” – Doechii is once again embodying her title of “Doechii The Don,” and has blessed us with another stellar live performance. The rapper took to NPR’s Tiny Desk to deliver another masterful mélange of songs mainly from the Grammy-nominated mixtape Alligator Bites Never Heal.
The Top Dawg Entertainment Swamp Princess compiled eight of her most beloved cuts into a seamlessly strung-together 23-minute set with barely any breaks, backed by a Swamp-suited band who polished off each of the tracks. She opened with a jazzy rendition of “BOOM BAP,” changing the lyrics in the middle to include “NPR said they wanted me to rap.” “BOILED PEANUTS” flowed seamlessly into “DENIAL IS A RIVER,” reminiscent but incredibly different from her Colbert set. Other highlights included a magnum opus “NISSAN ALTIMA” and a nostalgic “Black Girl Memoir to close it out.
