Original Story: Louis Vuitton has taken to Instagram to announce a major drop for the beginning of 2025. Celebrating two decades following the iconic collaboration with Japanese artist Takashi Murakami, the luxury French fashion house is slated to launch a nostalgic re-edition collection of the collaboration.
While little is known about the release, the Instagram announcement features a short teaser clip of what fans can expect. Featuring Murakami’s iconic vibrant floral motifs as well as the bear, combined with the classic LV moniker, the duo appears to ready a major re-release of some of the collaboration’s most iconic pieces. From bags to accessories, the possibilities are endless.
When the collaboration first debuted on the Louis Vuitton Spring/Summer 2003 runway, LV’s then-creative director Marc Jacobs defined fashion collaborations for the noughties. The era saw the logoed LV bags riddled with kelly green, turquoise, yellow and hot pinks as well as featuring the monogramouflage and cherry blossoms which saw Murakami lend his cartoon-style artwork to the house’s signature pieces. Bringing LV to modern mainstream media’s attention, the collaboration has been regarded as one of the most memorable to date. At present, some of these pieces are offered at auction houses and sold for many times over. The “ultimate crossover,” Marc Jacobs said in 2009, “Our collaboration has produced a lot of works, and has been a huge influence and inspiration to many. It has been, and continues to be, a monumental marriage of art and commerce. The ultimate crossover – one for both the fashion and art history books.”
The LV x Takashi Murakami re-edition collaborative collection drops on January 1, 2025. Stay tuned for more information.
