AlphaTheta Launches DDJ-FLX2, its First Entry Level DJ Controller
A basic two-channel controller, but surprisingly full of features for its price.
After launching as a sister brand to Pioneer DJ, AlphaTheta is releasing its first entry-level DJ controller under its own brand name, having announced its intentions to do so earlier this year.
The new DDJ-FLX2 is aimed at DJs that are just getting started and becomes the brand’s latest budget option, following on from the Pioneer DJ DDJ-FLX4 from 2022. The controller is surprisingly versatile for its price and users have a wide range of options when it comes to both the hardware and the software they choose to use with it. Smartphones, tablets and computers are all compatible, as well as certain music streaming services like including Apple Music that can be accessed via the Algoriddim djay app. Users can also choose to use other popular DJ apps rekordbox or Serato DJ Lite.
The controller packs a few cool tricks, too, amongst which is Smart CFX, a feature that allows users to emulate complex effects with “the simple turn of knob”. Another, Smart Fader, takes care of the hard work by automatically mixing tracks for the user, acting like a cheat code that optimizes your track’s speed and sound levels and allowing you to “easily mix tracks from different genres, even if they have vastly different tempos.” “All you have to do is slide the crossfader in one direction,” the brand states in its press release.
In terms of ports, the DDJ-FLX2 has a 3.5 mm stereo mini jack port for headphones, another for speakers, and a USB-C port for connecting a music source. It also supports Bluetooth, making the DDJ-FLX2 a great new addition to the brand’s roster with a pleasantly surprising number of features given how affordable it is.
The AlphaTheta DDJ-FLX2 is available now via AlphaTheta stockists worldwide, priced at £159 GBP / €189 EUR / $179 USD.
