OMEGA Brings Back the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8 With Elevated Details
Featuring a miniature Saturn V rocket small seconds hand.
OMEGA has brought back its Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8 wristwatch. First unveiled in 2018, the timepiece served as a commemorative release for OMEGA’s 50th anniversary, while also paying homage to its involvement in the Apollo 8 space mission in 1968.
This time around, the brand goes beyond producing a faithful recreation of the Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8 watch. The latest update elevates the iconic timepiece with added refinement and attention to detail that enhances the watch’s special charm and nature. On the semi-skeletonized dial, the movement is presented in a lunar surface textured as viewed from Earth’s perspective. Meanwhile, its caseback offers a closer look at the watch’s Calibre 3869 — attired with a laser-ablated moon relief on blackened bridges and main plate to reference the dark side of the moon.
Just like its preceding model, the new reference also arrives in a black ceramic build from its 44.35mm case, bezel, to caseback. Various textures and details enrich the dial, curating a memorable viewing experience for its wearer. Some details include the Grand Feu enameling on the tachymeter scale, varnished yellow central chrono hands and a small seconds hand that emulates the look of NASA’s Saturn V rocket.
The new Speedmaster Dark Side of the Moon Apollo 8 has a price point of $14,300 USD. Visit OMEGA’s official website for more information on its availability.
