Kendrick Lamar Scores Chanel's 'The Button' Film
Directed by pgLang’s Dave Free, ‘The Button’ is set to premiere at Chanel’s SS24 show tomorrow.
Fashion Week has proven a lively home for major music moments, with Paris and New York City runways seeing the likes of album premieres, track debuts and unreleased teases – most famously Ye‘s The Life of Pablo during New York Fashion Week‘s Yeezy Season 3 and most recently, Mumford & Sons and Pharrell premiering “Good People” at Louis Vuitton‘s Paris show. Kendrick Lamar is the latest artist to offer up his musical prowess to the fashion ether, delivering the score for Chanel‘s short film The Button, which is set to premiere at the fashion house’s Spring/Summer 2024 Haute Couture show tomorrow.
Scored by Lamar, directed by Dave Free, and “serviced” by pgLang, The Button – clocking in at three-and-a-half-minutes and stylized in black-and-white – features an unreleased Lamar cut and sees appearances from House ambassadors Margaret Qualley and Anna Mouglalis, along with Naomi Campbell.
“At the invitation of Virginie Viard, Kendrick Lamar and Dave Free meet the world of Chanel Haute Couture for the first time, bringing to life a story about time and transmission,” the Instagram caption begins. “Actress and House ambassador Margaret Qualley plunges us into the tale The Button alongside actress and House ambassador Anna Mouglalis, as well as friend of the House Naomi Campbell.”

The Button finds Qualley trekking to Paris (thanks to a ticket from Campbell at the train station) to meet with the label’s head designer (Mouglalis) at Chanel’s iconic 31 Rue Cambon storefront.
“Beauty within the imperfections of time,” Mouglalis closes out the clip.
