There’s always been a certain amount of elegance associated with the Ryder Cup, a golf competition that’s been around since 1927. Perhaps it’s the iconic trophy, the glitzy European destinations like Paris, Rome and London, or some of the players who have competed in the tournament over the years like Seve Ballesteros, Arnold Palmer and Tiger Woods. This year though, Miami-based shoemakers Del Toro are taking that elegance to another level, designing three shoes for the USA team to wear throughout the week’s festivities. It’s a partnership that makes a particular amount of sense this year given that the competition is being held in Guidonia Montecelio, a suburb of Rome, and Del Toro makes all of its shoes in Napoli.

The lineup of player edition shoes consists of three silhouettes, a white leather sneaker, a black velvet slipper and a brown leather loafer. The white sneaker will be the first glimpse of Del Toro during the week, with players wearing it as they arrive in the capital. The Italian leather sneaker features blue contrast stitching and a rubber heel, and comes stamped with the Ryder Cup logo and iconic trophy. Next up, the velvet slipper will be worn during a private dinner for the players, with the Ryder Cup logo appearing on the sole and each player’s initials featuring on the inner heel. Finally, the brown leather “Milano” loafer is crafted from a fine Italian Napa leather and is embossed with the letter “X” on the tongue (no association to Elon Musk).

Although these three won’t be available to the public, there will be a collection released for retail ahead of the late September tournament that includes a white sneaker and two different loafers, so stay tuned for those.
