eBay Has Launched an Authenticity Service for Streetwear
The authentication services is now available in six categories.
As luxury resale becomes a more prominent part of the industry, eBay continues to find its hold in the market. The global e-commerce platform has been authenticating luxury handbags since 2021 and since acquiring Certilogo earlier this year, has officially expanded its Authenticity Guarantee service to streetwear.
Between Q4 2019 to 2022 of the same period, eBay’s luxury category has seen a double-digit annualized growth. eBay claims that due to its authentication service driving consumer confidence as well as new programs including Certified by Brand, their users are more comfortable purchasing from eBay. The increased use of eBay for luxury resale has also pushed the platform to be able to deliver a broader selection of premium items.
The Authenticity Guarantee service is now added to all eligible streetwear bought and sold in the U.S. The pieces are then both vetted and verified by eBay’s team through professionally trained authenticators. The authentication takes place with a physical inspection using advanced technical equipment in eBay’s dedicated and new state-of-the-art New Jersey facility. In order for the high streetwear brand like Aimé Leon Dore, Fear of God, Supreme, Off-White, Palace and Stone Island and BAPE to be authenticated, they have to sell for more than $200 USD. The inspection features multipoint inspections by in-house experts, proof of authentication and verified returns.
By the end of September eBay will expand its Authenticity Guarantee service to other eligible brands like adidas, Balenciaga, Burberry, Cactus Plant Flea Market, Chrome Hearts, Comme des Garçons, Dior, Fendi, Givenchy, Gucci, Jordan Brand, Louis Vuitton, Nike, OVO, Palm Angels, Prada and Rhude. Including streetwear, the authentication services is now available across six categories featuring sneakers, watches, handbags, jewelry, trading cards and motors. Its authentication leads eBay to outpace the rest of the marketplace.
