Prada these days is synonymous with Miuccia Prada’s iconic, playful fashion creations ranging from lipstick skirts to flaming button-ups and, of course, those many nylon accessories. But the Italian company got its start as a leather goods emporium founded by Mario Prada, Miuccia’s grandfather, in 1913. Miuccia took the helm in 1978 to make it the fashion powerhouse it is today, and with the announcement of Raf Simons as co-creative director in 2019, the heritage brand is at the precipice of a new era.
