Apple on Tuesday revealed new iterations of Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro for iPad. The industry-leading music and video editing applications will arrive on the hand-held device with all-new touch interfaces and navigation abilities, beginning May 23.

“We’re excited to introduce Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro for iPad, allowing creators to unleash their creativity in new ways and in even more places,” said Bob Borchers, Apple’s vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing. “With a powerful set of intuitive tools designed for the portability, performance, and touch-first interface of iPad, Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro deliver the ultimate mobile studio.”

For Final Cut Pro, iPad users will have access to a new jog wheel that makes the editing process easier, with simplified movement across the Magnetic Timeline and intuitive controls for making fast frame-accurate edits. Users will also be able to draw and write directly on video content, via Live Drawing, with an Apple Pencil.

The Pro Camera Mode lets video creators capture high-quality video in both portrait and landscape, monitor audio and change settings including focus, exposure and white balance. There’s also several features made to speed up lengthy editing tasks, like Scene Removal Mask, which lets users swiftly remove or replace backgrounds without a green screen, and Auto Crop, which manipulates video to meet various aspect ratios.

For Logic Pro, Apple is putting controls at users’ fingertips with new Plug-In Tiles, in an effort to streamline the process of shaping sounds. Similar to Final Cut Pro, Logic Pro users can draw track automation directly onto their edits with the Apple Pencil, and they will be able to capture audio using the iPad’s built-in microphone. (The iPad Pro, specifically, houses five studio-quality mics.)

The new Sound Browser enlists dynamic filtering to showcase all available instrument patches, audio patches, plug-in presets, samples and loops in one location. There are over 100 instruments and effects plug-ins in Logic Pro, including vintage EQs, compressors and reverbs that help fine-tune tracks. And with Multi-Touch, users will be able to play instruments on varying play surfaces. The Pro Mixer, meanwhile, offers users a full-featured system with channel strips, volume faders, pan controls, plug-ins, sends and precise automation.

Final Cut Pro and Logic Pro will launch in the iPad App Store on May 23 for $4.99 USD per month or $49 USD per year with a one-month free trial. Final Cut Pro will be available for M1 chip iPad models or later, while Logic Pro will be compatible with A12 Bionic chip iPad models or later.
