Filippa K Bathes New Amsterdam Store in Icy Blue
Channeling Nordic styles.
Following its store opening in Helsinki, Finland last year, Filippa K is expanding its reach to the Netherlands with its new flagship store in Amsterdam.
Bathed in soft, yet striking Nordic icy blue, the new store extends creative director Liisa Kessler’s exploration of retail duality – bridging fashion and design. To bring forth the new space, Filippa K reunited with architecture firm, Profan, which is the same entity that produced the Helsinki store. Pervasing the two-story location is clay-based flooring, chrome clothing rails, mirror-top shelving and a terrace that overlooks a small garden. Womenswear is housed on the first level while menswear takes residence upstairs.
The new store also emphasizes the usage of texture – with hanging changing room tapestries made from leftover yarn from previous Filippa K collections. Made by Swedish artist Micael de Leeuw, the tapestries offer a separation in space, which juxtapose mirrored surfaces throughout the store. Other elevated touches seen throughout the space are a lounge set by Michel Ducaroy, a 1970s perforated stainless steel sculptural chair, a Malin Pierre haute-couture-inspired glass vase and more.
