Following the end of Ash and Pikachu’s 26-year-long journey after winning the Pokémon World Championship, their monumental retirement will open up the way for a pair of new protagonists for the Pokémon TV anime. This spring will see the introduction of Liko and Roy who will start their road toward becoming the best Pokémon masters.

Assisting the protagonist will be a new cast of characters set to be introduced in the next arc of the Pokémon anime. Introduced in a series of character designs and a promotional video is a new character named Friede and his partner Captain Pikachu. Friede will serve as the latest in the line of Pokémon professors, but unlike his predecessors, Friede is a “fighting Pokémon Professor” that will “accompany our protagonists during their adventures.”

The upcoming Pokémon TV anime arc will premiere April 14 in Japan.
