After becoming World Champion last season, Ash Ketchum and his faithful companion Pikachu will be saying goodbye. After 25 years, the iconic duo will be retiring after 11 more episodes of Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series.

The final episodes of the series, which debuted in 1997, will also feature beloved friends Misty and Brock while offering a glimpse at Ash and Pikachu’s future. Pokémon Ultimate Journeys: The Series will air the final episodes in Japan starting January 13, 2023. “The forthcoming special episodes not only celebrate Ash’s monumental achievement, but they also act as an expression of gratitude from Pokémon to all the fans who have joined him and his partner Pokémon Pikachu along the way,” said The Pokémon Company.

Following the 11 episodes, a new Pokémon animated series will premiere April 2023 in Japan and feature a new dual protagonist. Trainers Liko and Roy will traverse a new world of Pokémon and feature Sprigatito, Fuecoco, and Quaxly from the Pokémon Scarlet and Violet video games, along with the legendary Rayquaza in its Shiny form.
