Amazon Games has struck a deal with Crystal Dynamics to bring the next installment in the Tomb Raider franchise to fruition. Crystal will be developing the project, while Amazon will be responsible for publishing and distributing.

The new Tomb Raider game, which has yet to receive a title, will see hero Lara Croft return in a continuation of her narrative-driven adventure. Players will control Croft in a single-player format that brings puzzle solving and exploration to the forefront. Along the way, they’ll be challenged to defeat a variety of enemies while retaining core elements of the long running series.

To create the game and amplify its storytelling, Crystal Dynamics will be using the new Unreal Engine 5, lauding the forthcoming title as the “biggest, most expansive” Tomb Raider game to date.

Since its launch in 1996, Tomb Raider has spawned over 20 video games, selling over 95 million copies globally.

“Transformative is what we’re looking for, and with Amazon Games, we found a team that shares our creative vision, ambitions, and values for a Lara Croft universe across the spectrum of possibilities,” head of studio at Crystal Dynamics Scot Amos said. “They’re uniquely positioned to rewrite what publishing and development collaborations are, and we’re eager to forge this new path together, starting with building the biggest and best Tomb Raider game yet!”

More details about Amazon and Crystal Dynamics’ new Tomb Raider game will be announced at a later date.

In other gaming news, Chris Metzen has returned as Blizzard’s creative advisor.
