Cage championed handcrafted filmmaking with Gen Z directors while confirming plans for 'True Detective' Season 5

Nicolas Cage has taken a public stand against artificial intelligence, confirming he refused to sign an AI waiver for Prime Video‘s Spider-Noir. Speaking at a New York Comic-Con panel, the actor revealed that his refusal to grant digital likeness rights means he will likely not work with Amazon again due to the company being “very AI-friendly.”

Addressing the entertainment industry’s growing reliance on generative technology, Cage directly cited Amazon’s massive financial backing of artificial intelligence as the catalyst for his decision. “How do you survive AI?” Cage stated. “Amazon is a very AI-friendly company to the tune of 50 billion dollars invested in OpenAI. I am not an AI-friendly actor….I’m not a member of their club. I didn’t sign the waiver to let them use AI on Spider-Noir. I’m probably not going to be working with that studio again, but that’s okay.”

Rather than embracing automated studio workflows, Cage emphasized his intention to collaborate with emerging Gen Z creators who produce films by hand. Between upcoming feature roles like Perish, the actor also confirmed plans to stay active in television, teasing that he is set to star in Season 5 of HBO’s True Detective.
