Since the departure of Kyrie Irving from Nike Basketball’s signature shoe roster, Ja Morant has stepped up to the plate as the brand’s latest prodigy to launch a model. Unveiled on Christmas Day of last year, the Ja 1 arrives as Nike Basketball’s most affordable signature footwear model. Earlier this month, we sat down with the design team and heard from Morant himself as they showed off five of the shoe’s launch colorways, including the now officially revealed “Scratch” look.
Having launched in limited quantities alongside the Swarovski crystal-adorned “Midnight” pair at Morant’s Mt. 12Skii event at All-Star Weekend, the “Scratch” prominently carries the Memphis Grizzlies’ historic colors of turquoise, bronze, red and black. Adding to this, ferocious claw marks that suit both the mascot and Morant’s aggressive style of play arrive on the Swooshes and lateral portion of the shoe. Nods to Morant appear at the tongue with his signature logo, signed name at the lateral heel hidden beneath its textile layer and embroidered “12” text on each shoe’s heel.
Stay tuned for the debut of the Nike Ja 1 as release for it and the “Scratch” colorway is expected to take place in the coming months via Nike and select retailers at a price of $110 USD.
