Original Story: If something’s dubbed “washed,” the connotation associated with it is often negative. According to Urban Dictionary, “washed” is “a term used to describe a general feeling of exhaust, tiredness and lack of motivation.” Thankfully, Jordan Brand isn’t adhering to that malaise-inducing definition on their newest Air Jordan 1 colorway, the “Washed Black.” A largely understated color scheme with some compelling material adjustments, the “Washed Black” is the good kind of washed: fresh, clean and crisp.

Revealed by Instagram sneaker leaker long7ze, the Air Jordan 1 “Washed Black” offers up a “Black/Fire Red/Light Smoke Grey/Sail” color scheme with key details provided by suede overlays that replace the AJ1’s standard leather overlays, two-tone collars and a bright pop of flair on the tongue tag. Suede takes on Michael Jordan’s first signature sneaker are not necessarily a new phenomenon, with models like the “Stage Haze” and “Light Smoke Grey” serving up suede stylings in the past, but they’re still infrequent enough to be compelling and bring a bit of Nike SB flair to the beloved model.
