When designing new retro colorways, Jordan Brand has a penchant for calling out pivotal moments in his basketball career and one of the most consistent themes that we see on his retro line is a nod to his alma mater: the University of North Carolina. We’ve seen this motif touch up models like the Air Jordan 3 and Air Jordan 6, and now an Air Jordan 5 “UNC” rendition is on the way. After surfacing back in May, its official images have now been loaded by Nike.

A Tar Heel-inspired “University Blue” hue anchors this installment’s presentation as it covers the suede uppers. The model’s reflective elements appear on the tongues while the mid-foot is engineered with a translucent TPU cage. Much like the Air Jordan 5 “Apple Green” from 2020, this variation is styled with a Jumpman patch on the lower heel. Inside the shoes, you’ll find that the interior of the tongues have been equipped with “University Blue” lining and split between “Heart” and “Soul” tabs that likely reference the grit that MJ played with during his time attending the Chapel Hill-based college.

Right now, these are on track to release on March 4 for $225 USD via Nike and select retailers.

In case you missed it, early pictures of the Air Jordan 1 High OG “‘Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse’” have emerged.
