After joining New Era for a GORE-TEX 59FIFTY fitted cap, nanamica has returned with its fully-fledged Spring/Summer 2023 collection. For the upcoming season, the Tokyo-based casualwear label continues its theme of “heartwarming life-tech wear,” with a bevy of ensembles that pursue further comfort with relaxed tailoring.

The collection comprises three scenes: “Heading to the Office,” “Home-Office Wear” and “OOAL / One Ocean All Lands.” In its first chapter, the range introduces several weather-resistant looks, including an all-new highly waterproof GORE-TEX coat that arrives with a hood and dot-button front for convenient wear. In collaboration with REGAL, the oldest shoemaker in Japan, the imprint crafted original leather shoes with GORE-TEX specifications that reference footwear designs from the U.S. Navy.

Elsewhere in the “Heading to the Office” domain, the brand looked to the traditional “karamiori” fabric, which is typically used in summer kimonos, to create a new textile for warmer weather. By replacing the storied fabric’s yarn with a contemporary functional yarn, nanamica injects a new sense of breathability into the line’s silhouettes, specifically across front-fastening, short-length jackets and active-oriented pants with a tapered cut and elastic waist.

For “Home-Office Wear,” the label lets relaxation prevail, with lightweight jackets and pants that utilize nanamica’s standard material, covering core yarn. Jackets, which don solid navy fabrics and hairline blue stripes, boast utilitarian hip pockets and more dot buttons, while pants leave room at the hips, with a slightly cropped length.

The final scene, “OOAL / One Ocean All Lands,” aims to remind people of the ocean and humanity’s damaging pollution of natural ecosystems. Under a powerful message, the brand designs techwear intended for a trip to the seaside, with waterproof and breathable GORE-TEX jackets and a series of knitwear titled “Sweater for the Sea,” which uses washi-blended yarn for maximal comfort.
