NOAH Taps Stormy Kromer For Retro Winter Caps
Built for forty below or sixty above.
NOAH has offered a closer look at its unique corduroy caps first teased in its Fall/Winter 2022 collection lookbook. The retro headwear was made in collaboration with Stormy Kromer, a small family-owned manufacturer which has been producing winter caps since the early 1900s. The idea for the cap design seen in the collaboration began when semi-pro baseball player and railroad engineer George “Stormy” Kromer kept losing his hat on the train. He asked his wife, Ida, to sew an ear band on his favorite baseball cap to keep it snug and his ears warm.
“Because of the way it is built you will find the Kromer Blizzard Cap comfortable whether it’s forty below or sixty above,” writes a retro KROMER CAP advertisement. While boasting a breezy, lightweight design, ear bands can be pulled down with one hand to protect the cheeks, forehead, and eyes. For NOAH’s Fall/Winter 22 collection, the caps are constructed using 100 percent English Corduroy from Brisbane Moss. Nearly all production is done in the USA, predominately in Ironwood, Michigan while more specialized tasks are distributed to knitting mills in New Jersey and North Carolina, screen printers in Wisconsin and Minnesota, and manufacturers in Honduras certified by the WRAP. The Stormy Kromer team partners closely with the St. Luke’s N.E.W. Life Center in Flint, Michigan, a non-profit that provides life skills, education, and workplace training with a large portion of its popular items produced by workers in their sewing centers.
The Noah x Stormy Kromer Corduroy caps are now available on NOAH’s website in “Brown,” “Cinnamon,” and “Dark Purple” for $75 USD.
