Rio Uribe is a name that rings synonymous with elevated streetwear and youth culture. His celebrated Gypsy Sport label rose to fame alongside the likes of Telfar, Hood By Air and Luar, and has been worn by Hollywood celebrities, academians and cool kid purveyors alike. For Spring/Summer 2023, Uribe made a vibrant runway return during the recently relaunched Los Angeles Fashion Week and celebrated Chicano culture for Gypsy Sport’s latest presentation.

Always on the precipice of representing diversity and individuality within his collections, Uribe’s new SS23 offerings featured male and female models of all shapes and sizes and highlighted garments that were a hybrid of LA street style mixed with Latinx inclusion.

GS’s ready-to-wear was composed of luxe flannel-style plaids in red, cream and white, along with true blue and dark blue denim, red sleek satins and crepe whites embossed with the “GS” planetary logo. Women’s spaghetti-strap slip dresses, billowing tulles, corseted pieces of denim and off-the-shoulder tops floated down the runway. While soft-style zoot suits, roomy skateboard shorts and oversized waistcoats comprised the men’s offerings.

Also noted on the runway were several pairs of Gypsy Sport logo embossed Nike Air Max sneakers in cranberry red and white.

Commenting on Gypsy Sport’s return to the runway, Uribe exclusively told Hypebeast: “I feel that there’s a recharge in LA for fashion, art and music, and people are paying attention to LA like never before. I’m from LA and lived in New York for years, but am now relocated back home to LA to start a new chapter and continue to grow my business here.”

“This collection was really inspired by Chicano culture – from the low-riders to the cholos, Rock en Español, emo kids, and the glam and disco queens. I really wanted to show the gamut of Latino culture,” Uribe added.

Further discovery of the Gypsy Sport label can be found on the brand’s website.

Meanwhile, Maxwell Osborne took his new label on the road for LA Fashion Week.
