'Space Jam: A New Legacy' Offers First Look of Zendaya as Lola Bunny
LeBron James also explains how he ended up in another dimension with the Looney Tunes.
With roughly just a month until its release, Space Jam: A New Legacy has now released a new promo video titled The Bunny & The GOAT, giving fans a playful introduction to the upcoming film.
A parody of ESPN’s 30 for 30, The Bunny & The GOAT explains that “an evil algorithm” (played by Don Cheadle) had taken LeBron James‘ son, and in an attempt to rescue him, James entered an alternate dimension, finding himself alongside the Looney Tunes. Drama ensues — especially between Bugs Bunny and James — as the classic cartoon characters and the NBA player attempt to work together in order to save James’ son and the Looney Tunes’ world.
Included in the clip is also fresh footage of Zendaya‘s portrayal of Lola Bunny. News of Zendaya joining the cast was first announced back in April, and the new clip is the first time fans are getting a look at the Spider-Man actress as the beloved character. In recent months, the Lola has attracted controversy following director Malcolm D. Lee’s decision to redesign her outfit, swapping out what used to be a tight crop top and short shorts to a team uniform with a looser silhouette. Speaking about his rationale, Lee said he wasn’t too fond of the “very sexualized” depiction of Lola from the previous film and instead wants his new portrayal to “reflect the authenticity of strong, capable female characters.” He also pointed out that Lola is now the “best non-LeBron player” on the team.
Space Jam: A New Legacy will hit theaters and HBO Max on July 16.
Elsewhere in entertainment, a new A Quiet Place film has been greenlit for 2023.
