Archival John Galliano-Era Dior Is Now up for Auction
Featuring more than 500 vintage pieces from 1996 to 2011.
Fashion fanatics everywhere can now have a chance to get their hands on archived
Over 500 vintage pieces from Galliano’s tenure from 1996 to 2011 are up for grabs at the Parisian auction house, Cornette de Saint Cyr. 300 of those items are donated by a Russian woman, who has been collecting Galliano-designed haute couture since his debut in Fall 1997. Amongst those stand-out offerings include a black cheongsam-inspired evening dress, which appeared in his first-ever collection with the house of Dior and the 2005 red belted-python coat.
The auction boasts a selection of over 100 handbags, including classic silhouettes including the Lady Dior, Gaucho, Malice and Cadillac. Four timeless saddle bags including one dressed in denim and embroidered with rainbow butterflies are also set for auction alongside the iconic SS06 newsprint pieces. Hubert Felbacq, director of Cornett de Saint Cyr’s luxury and vintage department told WWD, “The sale is very representative of the evolution of Galliano’s style at the house of Dior.”
Those interested can expect prices to range from approximately $36 USD for smaller accessories to $2,720 USD for more exclusive apparel and accessory items. The archive auction takes place on June 7. All the lots are currently on display at the Cornette de Saint Cyr’s headquarters from June 4 to 6.
