Zara and legendary couturier John Galliano have officially launched their inaugural collaboration, introducing a genderless collection titled “Re{form}” Vol. 1. Captured in a campaign shot by photographer Steven Meisel, the release sees archival Zara garments dismantled, distorted, and reconstructed through high-fashion couture techniques.
Functioning as a creative exchange between the former Maison Margiela creative director and Zara’s historical wardrobe archives, the collection treats mass-market pieces as raw prototypes. Galliano cuts, splices, shrinks, and reassembles foundational garments into entirely new silhouettes. Conceptually, the design language draws inspiration from “Les Incroyables” and “Les Merveilleuses” of post-Revolutionary France, alongside elements of traditional gardening wardrobes and film noir aesthetics.
Key transformations throughout the lineup reimagine staple items in unexpected ways. An oversized Zara button-up shirt features a foil print designed to resemble a leather coat, while a lace shift dress is repurposed into a ruffled collar. Elsewhere, tailored jackets incorporate re-positioned pockets for an expressive attitude, and multi-layered dresses are engineered to create the visual illusion of structured coats.
The Zara by John Galliano “Re{form}” Vol. 1 collection is available now via Zara.
