Don’t call it a comeback, but summer 2021 might be the season of the Nike Free. The popular Free Run 2 is set to return to market, the Free Run Trail has begun rolling out again, and the latest installment of the Free Run 5.0 series — which was just announced — features recycled materials and a whole new cushioning setup.

Free sneakers have always been about flexibility and natural movement, which the 2021 iteration of the Free Run 5.0 provides with a sock-like knit upper that wraps the foot, plus a reworked midsole that Nike Running promises is “lighter, softer and more responsive” thanks to a new foam compound and dynamic flex grooves. The new Free Run 5.0 introduces an element of sustainability as well: each pair is made of at least 20 percent recycled content by weight.

From a looks standpoint 2021’s Free Run 5.0 features a trim upper with a thick collar and a duo of Swooshes, large on the lateral quarter, small on the medial forefoot. Classic Nike Sportswear Sunburst hits appear on the tongue and the insole as well. Three colorways are set to release at launch: a soothing “Steam/Olive Aura/Light Bone,” an airy-yet-sporty “Off White/White/Grey Fog” and, of course, a classic “Black/Dark Smoke Grey/White.”

Look for the 2021 iteration of the Nike Free Run 5.0 to release on the Nike webstore soon. MSRP is set at $100 USD.
