'The French Dispatch' Receives Official Theatrical Release Date
Following its international debut at the Cannes Film Festival in July.
After numerous delays due to the ongoing pandemic and an indefinite postponement, Wes Anderson‘s The French Dispatch finally has an official theatrical release date.
According to Variety, the Searchlight Pictures-produced movie will land in theaters on October 22 — after its scheduled premiere at the Cannes Film Festival, which kicks off on July 6. The film will debut on the same weekend as Edgar Wright‘s horror The Last Night in Soho and Clint Eastwood‘s western Cry Macho.
After its Cannes debut, the movie will also screen at the 59th New York Film Festival, beginning on September 24 and running through October 10.
The American comedy-drama film, which the synopsis describes as a “love letter to journalists” and features a multitude of storylines in a fictional 20th-century French city, enlists Hollywood’s elite: Timothée Chalamet, Bill Murray, Owen Wilson, Benicio del Toro and Tilda Swinton, among several others.
The French Dispatch marks Anderson’s 10th feature film, following his previous blockbuster hits including The Royal Tenenbaums, Moonrise Kingdom, and The Grand Budapest Hotel. After his last directorial project — the 2018 stop-motion animation Isle of Dogs — Anderson co-wrote The French Dispatch with Roman Coppola, Hugo Guinness and Jason Schwartzmann.
The movie was originally supposed to have its international debut at last year’s Cannes Film Festival and arrive in theaters during the corresponding summer, but the pandemic disrupted the Wes Anderson film’s release schedule.
