New Balance's Made in England 991 Appears in OG Gray Colorway
The familiar makeup returns to celebrate the 991’s 20th anniversary.

What’s a good way to celebrate a classic shoe’s 20th anniversary? Bring back one of its original colors. New Balance‘s 991 has entered its 20th year on the market, and after festivities including a special anniversary makeup and a Patta collaboration, NB will be retroing the 991’s original gray colorway. Made at the brand’s famed Flimby, UK factory, this style combines elegant colorblocking with premium materials for a blast from the past that still looks good in the modern day.
Two shades of gray take precedence on the upper: a steel gray on the mesh toebox and collar, and a more earthy gray on the suede mudguard, midfoot and heel. More detail is served by wolf gray leather toebox overlays, collar detailing and tongues, while branding is supplied by way of a silver N logo trimmed in white on the quarter, an embroidered 991 hit on the tongue and another 991 dash on the heel. Down below, two-tone ABZORB midsoles and black rubber outsoles with a repeating N traction pattern complete the build.
This made-in-UK 991 will release via retailers like Subtype in the coming weeks, and is priced at $320 AUD (approximately $244 USD).
