Nike Reveals Details for New "Nike Refurbished" Circularity Program
Depending on their condition, returned shoes will either be restored and sold on the shelves or recycled into Nike Grind materials.
In an effort to further advance its “Move to Zero” commitments and reduce its carbon footprint, Nike is introducing its newest circularity program entitled Nike Refurbished.
The process here is extremely simple. Sneakers from consumers that are returned within the 60-day post-purchase window will either be restored by the retail team and sold back on the shelves or recycled into Nike Grind materials. This operation is designed to further extend the lifespan of their products. If a shoe is still in prime enough condition to be re-sold, it will be tagged with one of three classifications including “Like New”, “Gently Worn” or “Cosmetically Flawed” and priced accordingly so that customers have an idea of what shape these used shoes are in. Moreover, Nike Refurbished footwear is also covered by Nike’s 60-day wear test so if the kicks aren’t up to snuff, they can still return them.
So far, 15 Nike retail locations across the US are confirmed to be participating in this model, but there are plans in place to expand this list over the course of 2021. An official store list can be found here.
