After four years since its original reveal, fans are finally about to get a closer look at the upcoming Age of Empires IV.

Taking place at the beginning of April, Relic Entertainment and Xbox Game Studios will be revealing more about the fourth installment of the iconic strategy game franchise with a fresh fan preview, which it says will showcase new gameplay civilizations, campaigns, and a bunch of other surprises.

The game was originally announced back in 2017, with a first look at its gameplay arriving two years later. Much of what the game will entail still remains under wraps, but World’s Edge studio lead Shannon Loftis did offer an update at the end of last year, saying that the developers have already been playing the game “every single day.” She added that “RTS development is funny” because “It takes a while to build the separate systems (AI, economy, sim, rendering, etc), and then it takes a while for them to come together. But when they do, you suddenly have a game — a game that needs debugging and balance and polish — but the core of the game that you know you’re going to ship. And the best part is that it feels like an Age of Empires game.”

For fans of the franchise, Relic Entertainment’s upcoming fan preview for Age of Empires IV is scheduled for April 10, at 9 a.m. PT.

Elsewhere in gaming, Sony has now acquired the Evo esports tournament.
