Foo Fighters Celebrate the 25th Anniversary of Their Debut Album With Vans Sk8-Hi Collaboration
The collaborative kicks also serve as a lead-up to the release of the Fighters’ new ‘Medicine at Midnight’ record.
It’s been 25 years since the Foo Fighters released their self-titled debut album, so to celebrate its 20th anniversary and the impending release of their new Medicine at Midnight record, the legendary band has teamed with Vans for a special Sk8-Hi. As the Sk8-Hi has long been a favorite of guitarist/lead vocalist Dave Grohl, drummer Taylor Hawkins, bassist Nate Mendel, guitarist Chris Shiflett, rhythm guitarist Pat Smear and keyboardist Rami Jaffee, the band adopted an “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” mentality for their collaboration, using a simple-yet-effective palette and plenty of FF-friendly details.
Uppers are constructed from a familiar black canvas and covered in red contrast stitching from heel to toe. This contrast stitching replaces the quarter’s standard Jazz Stripe, and enables the shoe’s signature detail — a large white “FF” logo — to be shown in full. Apart from the FF hit, more band-inspired detailing is spread across the heels thanks to a Foo Fighters spellout split between the left and right shoes. Finishing touches are handled by a 25th anniversary tag on the tongue, white laces and eyestays, and the classic combo of a white midsole and gum vulc outsole.
The Foo Fighters x Vans Sk8-Hi will release via the Vans webstore and the Foo Fighters’ shop on January 29, just over a week ahead of Medicine at Midnight‘s arrival on February 5. Interested parties can also sign up to shop the shoes a day early.
