Conway The Machine returns with “Lemon,” his latest single featuring Method Man from his upcoming album From King to a GOD, out September 11 via Drumwork/Griselda/EMPIRE. The track does not disappoint, melding the Griselda and Wu-Tang universes with effortless chemistry and lyrical dexterity. We could go on with just how impressive the Buffalo rap crew’s past few years have been with their countless releases, critical acclaim and a never-ending cycle of new projects, but now that consistency is just embedded into the collective’s respective identities.

Produced by Griselda in-house producer Daringer and Beat Butcha, the minimal instrumental backdrop is full of echoing piano keys and menacing bass throughout. Conway weaves a story of the ramifications of street life — long prison sentences, not seeing one’s children grow up — with how he not only survived but was able to thrive. “Watchin’ his baby mothers cry, I got numb, I can’t lie/ His mama ain’t shed one tear, she know that come with this life/ Thought about it, his kids was young when son got the time/ Won’t see his daughter graduate, can’t teach his son how to drive/ Now you see where I get this ambition from and this drive,” he raps.

Meanwhile, Method Man’s verse is a return to form. “Capone-N-Noreaga watchin’ CNN/ Black whip, black tint, y’all ain’t seein’ in/ It’s Con and Meth, spread the word, boy, you seein’ ‘em/ No seein’ ‘em, these rappers in the scope, you never seein’ ‘em/ Killa Bees back in the building with Machine and ‘em/ We creamin’ ‘em with pockets of dirty money I’m clean again.”

From King to a GOD will also feature Freddie Gibbs, Westside Gunn, Benny The Butcher, Havoc, Lloyd Banks, Dej Loaf, The Alchemist, Hit-Boy and Erick Sermon. Earlier this year, Conway teamed up with The Alchemist for their LULU EP and dropped his full-length collaboration No One Mourns the Wicked with Big Ghost LTD.
