Big Sean Returns With New "Harder Than My Demons" Music Video
His new album ‘Detroit 2’ launches September 4.
Big Sean is gearing up for the launch of his next full-length studio effort, Detroit 2, set to release September 4 via G.O.O.D. Music and Def Jam Recordings. The sequel is a follow-up to his initial Detroit mixtape released over eight years ago. Today he makes yet another triumphant return with his new single and music video “Harder Than My Demons” featuring production from Mike WiLL Made-It, DJ Khalil and others.
“Harder Than My Demons” follows a number of recent momentum-building releases from Big Sean within the past week. First he dropped off his highly-anticipated collaborative effort with Nipsey Hussle in “Deep Reference” and then he teased a Lil Wayne verse and premiered his upcoming album with his new “Don Life” trailer featuring a surprising Sada Baby cameo.
“Harder Than My Demons” features a standout church choir sample with uptempo drums throughout, pushing Big Sean to rap double-time. The setting transitions from shots in an old church to burning nooses and baptism scenes. He opens with a verse about his personal health (even though it might tread into anti-vaxxer territory).
“All natural, Doctor Sebi, you gon’ have to CBD me/ I been watchin’ what they feed mе/ I like when she tеll me with her body language that she need me/ See my third eye is on left eye, I can’t let them Eazy-E me/ No sir, I don’t even do flu shots/ Clique with me everywhere I go, so every pic a group shot,” he raps. He also references the late Dr. Sebi, born Alfredo Bowman, who was an unlicensed physician who claimed to have found the cure for AIDS in the 1980s. He was also the subject of a documentary produced by Nipsey Hussle before the rapper was fatally shot in 2019.
