As DC Comics lovers eagerly await the launch of Warner Bros. Pictures’ The Batman film, Uniqlo UT adds to the fan fervor with the release of an apparel collaboration with the entertainment company and late legendary artist, Jean-Michel Basquiat. The collection highlights graphics inspired by Basquiat’s rarely seen works of DC superheroes that inspired him as a child. The artist frequently made use of several heroes and villains from the pages of comics such as Batman, The Joker and many others.

Items in the partnered assemblage include hoodies and tees in various base color options. One of the highlights of the release is a tonal black hoodie featuring Basquiat’s Untitled work from 1983. DC’s dynamic duo, Batman and Robin, appear in the abstract expressionist composition alongside Basquiat’s signature, free-associative texts and other visual elements such as spiderwebs, a floating hand and spikes.

“I want to make paintings that look as if they were made by a child,” Basquiat once told fellow graffiti artist and iconic hip-hop emcee, Fab 5 Freddy. Nothing captures the artist’s childlike spirit more than his artistic reimagining of colorful characters and themes from the pages of popular comic books.

Check out the Jean-Michel Basquiat x Warner Bros. collection above and expect an official launch on Uniqlo’s website and select stores on September 7.
