Though Japanese creatives are less confined by the global quarantine than their Western counterparts, they still spend plenty of time indoors. FACETASM founder and designer Hiromichi Ochiai isn’t upset by the precautions, however, as the social distancing standards give him extra time to enjoy his living space and feline companion.

In between motorcycle trips and plant watering, Ochiai is constantly brainstorming FACETASM projects, without sacrificing comfort or good food.

What’s your daily routine when working from home?

Despite the current situation I still have a lot of upcoming projects that I need to work on for FACETASM, collaborations as well as next season’s collection. So it’s basically all work from the moment I wake up ’til the moment I go to bed, only taking some time in between to water all of my plants.

Though Japan seems to be a lot less suffering then Europe and the U.S., I still try to be as careful as possible. Whenever I do go outside, I’ll take a ride on my motorbike to take my mind off things.

Where in your home do you like to work?

During the day I move around my apartment to whichever place that gets the most sunlight. This also let’s me have a change of scenery plus I get a lot of energy from working in the daylight.

What do you wear while working from home?

Most days I’m wearing my FACETASM faux suede tracksuit. I’ll pair it with a headband and thick mohair socks.

What do you eat at home?

My diet has not changed a lot, it consists mainly of Japanese food. I think one of the only things you can do right now is to stay healthy and eat well-balanced and nutritious food. I’ll sometimes order takeout from nearby restaurants. It allows me to support a local business and to go outside for a short walk.

How do you stay in a good headspace while in isolation?

I don’t feel lonely because the world is still there. You can go anywhere in your mind, as long as you create it, so you are free to go anywhere you like.

What do you listen to, watch and do for fun when working from home?

I really enjoy observing my cats and plants. There are a lot of things I did not notice before because I did not have the time.
