Virgil Abloh sent the bags down the runway in January, taking inspiration from Heaven for the entire collection. As a result, the trunk backpacks sport iconography that references a world above — clouds spelling out LV on a blue-and-white monogrammed piece, and another covered in a mirrored LV monogram.
Upon Abloh’s appointment as artistic director of Louis Vuitton, the designer repurposed the house’s signature trunk and luggage history into new personal bags. We’ve seen plenty of small iterations, but now the designer presents something that’s as true to the original trunks as can be, albeit with his contemporary twist.
Both feature leather trims and are squared-off at the edges. They have rivets and straps, meticulously detailed stitching, and in order to make them functional backpacks, a set of adjustable straps on the rear. One very special finishing touch is that the bags open on a hinge, just like an original trunk would.
Joining the bags is a tent, which sports a traditional brown monogram print on the outside, and a cloud print on the inside. Take a look at everything releasing on the Louis Vuitton website and in stores imminently.
