A first look at the upcoming HBO series We Are Who We Are has emerged, ahead of its premier later this year.

Directed by Luca Guadagnino – the director behind the 2017 movie Call Me By Your Name and the 2018 remake of Suspiria – the series is a coming-of-age story following two teenagers living on a U.S. military base in Italy. The show was announced back in July 2019, with a cast including Kid Cudi alongside Chloë Sevigny and Jack Dylan Grazer.

We Are Who We Are will mark Guadagnino’s debut in television; though he has recently begun exploring other mediums. In 2019, he collaborated with Valentino creative director Pierpaolo Piccioli on a short film, The Staggering Girl, which starred Julianne Moore, KiKi Layne, and Kyle MacLachlan.

Cudi made his HBO debut in 2010, on the series How To Make It In America. Alongside this launch, he’s also involved in an animated TV series in collaboration with Kanye West. The musician is also working on a new single with Eminem, which is due for release later this week.

The new trailer is typically Guadagnino; it shows a pair of teenagers watching a group of other children playing on a beach. “They think we’re weird,” one says, to which the other responds, “Does that bother you?”

Among other new trailers released today is the latest installment in the Halloween series.
