Ubisoft's New Battle Royale 'Hyper Scape' is Now Free to Play
Currently available in open beta.
The previously announced battle royale title Hyper Scape recently left its limited technical testing and is now available to play in open beta. During yesterday’s Ubisoft Forward broadcast, the company revealed that the title is currently free to download and play on PC. The game was only previously available to Twitch and YouTube creators to showcase gameplay, which includes a feature that gives viewers the ability to vote for in-game events to happen.
The title is available alongside a new battle pass that adds a new weapon and Hack ability. The trailer above showcases a cinematic for the story, which many have already pointed out is reminiscent of the book and recent film Ready Player One.
Set in the year 2054, the planet has thoroughly advanced in technology, and yet its citizens suffer living in their megacities with little to no resources. To keep the populous distracted and entertained, “Hyper Scape” allows citizens to take place in a multiplayer battle royale that rewards winners with prizes and fame. However, the mega-corporation behind “Hyper Scape” may have a sinister motive behind its game.
The Hyper Scape open beta is currently only available on Windows PC. However, Ubisoft has plans to introduce the new battle royale on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One at a later date. Creative director Jean-Christophe Guyot also hinted that the title will arrive on next-generation consoles in the near future.
